MRI mockup

The MRI mockup was a project for some faculty in the Psychology dept. whose research involved doing multiple MRI scans of young children.  Many of them were uneasy with the loud noise and enclosed space encountered during a scan, so a realistic simulation of the experience was desired to give the kids a way to acclimate themselves to the process.

The mockup was constructed from large machined foam pieces for the front of the machine and a motorized table on rails that would retract into the center core made from a large piece of PVC tube.

The finished mockup was painted and 3d printed control panels were added to the front.  It also incorporated speakers and a sound system to simulate the loud knocking sounds common during an MRI scan.
